Pop Tabs for Kids is a great program to teach children about the importance of recycling and caring for our environment while helping a great organization raise funds to help children and their families.
You can help! Have your organization, company or family pull tabs off any aluminum beverage container and save them in a wide-mouth container. The tabs can be dropped off at the Ronald McDonald House in Salt Lake City.
Why save the tab? Why not the whole can? We collect only the tabs because they are small and easily stored. Unlike the can, tabs are paint-free, which increases their value and profit in the recycling process. Of course, once you pull the tab, we hope you will recycle the can as well! We have many organizations that will give us the money raised from recycling the cans.

Although this might not seem like much... we've raised over $10,000.00 in the past two years from these tabs! Every single tab counts! We hope to one day reach the success other Houses are experiencing. For example, the Minneapolis/St. Paul region now raises over $65,000 annually through their pop tab program!
Ideas for educators
- Teachers can use the Pop Tabs For Kids program as a tool to teach young children about the importance of community service. Their efforts can make a big difference in another child’s life.
- The program can be incorporated into curriculum about recycling and renewing our natural resources.
- Teachers may use the pull tabs in their math problems. For example, if there are 1,267 pull tabs in one pound, how many are there in seven pounds? If we receive 53 cents a pound from the recycler for the tabs, how many pounds will it take to equal $31.80?
- Teachers can use the tabs to count in tens, hundreds, thousands or even millions.
- Students can decorate their own pop tabs containers to take home.
